School Tours At Freund's Farm Market in East Canaan, CT

Attention Teachers! Looking for a fun and exciting way to teach your students about where their food comes from? A visit to Freund’s Farm is a great way to not only teach them about agriculture, but do so in a way they’ll remember and enjoy.

We offer tours throughout the year, some samples are:

In September and October, we give tours of our farm and dairy facilities.  Your students can see first hand how cows live, what they eat, how they are cared for and how they produce milk.  For a great "hands-on" activity students will harvest their own pumpkin and ear of popcorn. An additional activity is the removal of kernels from dried corn ears that can then be popped as part of a popcorn snack.  This healthful snack provides the motivation for the discussion of good nutrition.

In April, May & June  we offer the same tour of the dairy farm, but our "hands-on" activity revolves around plants.  Each student can choose from a variety of annual flowers to plant into a 4 inch CowPot. They can then take that plant home and harvest vegetables in the summer.  The snack activity with popcorn is also offered.
